TARDIS Jewelry box
What You Need:
- 1 empty chocolate box (I used Whitman’s sampler because it’s bigger on the inside)
- White Copy Paper- approximately 4 sheets, but keep extras around just in case
- Scissors
- Glue (clear drying is the best)
- Paint (I used DecoArt Acrylics)- Blue (TARDIS blue), Black, White
- Paint brushes- one wide Brush, one fine tip
- Pencil, Black Pen, and black fine tip Sharpie
- Ruler
Estimated Time: 1-2 Hours, less if you’re good at these sort of things, more if you are not
How to:
- Take the tray out of the box
- Completely wrap both the top and the bottom in copy paper, cutting however necessary . Use the glue to stick the paper to the box and to seal the edges of the paper. If you are using the Whitman’s box or something similar in design, you don’t have to completely wrap the bottom part, just the surface and ledge.
- Paint the top and bottom TARDIS blue using the wide brush.
- In order to get the watercolor effect on the sides, start by using the wide brush to paint a dark patch of blue. Then dip the brush in water and spread the color along the side in horizontal stripes.
- Wait for the paint to dry and add a second coating. If you’re impatient, like me, stick it in the microwave for anywhere between 10 and 20 seconds.
- Wait for the second coat to dry (or stick it in the microwave again) and start drawing the details (ie the windows and the police box sign) using the pencil and ruler
- Outline all the pencil lines (such as the squares in the doors) in black sharpie.
- Paint the windows and the Police Telephone sign white using the fine tip brush. Also, paint the Public Call sign and the bars and outline of the windows black using the fine tip brush.
- Write the words Police Box, Public call in pencil on the black strip, and using the back of a paintbrush dipped in white paint, write the words in.
- Write the POLICE TELEPHONE sign in Black pen and draw door handles in Sharpie
- Repeat steps six through ten on the other side of the box
- Wait for the paint to dry, and replace the tray. The TARDIS is now ready to be filled with your jewelry.
